The first one I tried out was Cosmo Kitty. This was the color that initially drew me to Katy's new lipstick. Katy has a pretty unique sense of fashion and this purple lip is a great example of that. I like to play around with my makeup so I decided this would be a nice lip to start with. The overall feel of the lipstick is awesome. It is extremely moisturizing; it almost feels like a lip balm. This is a big deal for me because I have to take extra good care of my lips to prevent them from becoming chapped when I use matte lipsticks.
The con of this lip color was that it was a little too sheer. It took about 3+ coats to get it to how it is in the picture and even then you can still see the pink color of my lips. The formula feels great but doesn't necessarily look great.
Another problem I came across when applying this color on was that it is difficult to get a perfect line. Granted, I didn't use lip liner, but it was still a little too clunky on the edges for my taste.
Next, I tried Crimson Cat. I picked up the color for the 4th of July since I threw away a lot of makeup prior to the holiday, including my cheap red lipstick from CVS. This covered beautifully, but I still think it was rough around the edges (no pun intended). It applied seamlessly but still managed to bleed around the edges. When I wore it on the 4th, I made sure to use a red lip liner I had, but for the picture I only used the lipstick. As for wear, it didn't stay on through a single bite of my hot dog, but on the other hand, it didn't come off when I drank. The lipstick itself can easily be wiped off and definitely isn't "kissable".
Lastly, I attempted a bold black lip using Perry Panther. I was ultimately disappointed with the color. It was a little too sheer for a black lip and was extremely hard to apply around the edges considering the color was so dark. As you can see in the second picture of the color you can definitely see my natural lip color. The lip looks good from afar and could maybe be improved by wearing a black lip liner underneath (But who just has black lip liner lying around? Not me.)
Lipstick wiping off easily becomes a problem with a color this dark. I do not recommend going near anything white or lightly colored. Seriously do not wipe your mouth on that napkin at the restaurant, this lip will destroy it forever. Make sure your boyfriend or girlfriend is not wearing white when you wear this. Also, make sure they are okay having black marks on their face because that would not be a pleasant surprise.
For around $8 Katy Kat Matte is a pretty solid lipstick. It is very moisturizing and it comes in many unique colors. That being said, this lipstick is no Jeffree Star. When it come to matte lipstick you definitely get what you pay for. This is NOT a matte formula. Demi-matte basically means a little less shine than normal lipstick. This lipstick NEEDS a lip liner desperately. In fact, it needs one so bad I wish Katy/Covergirl had sold them Kylie Jenner Lip Kit Style. The formula wipes off easily and would need a setting powder for long wear.
Overall, if you are looking for a cheap lipstick that is of decent quality I would go for Katy Kat Matte. However, if you are someone like me that prefers to splurge on good quality products that are long lasting, this lip formula is not ideal.
I hope this article helped give you a deeper look into Katy Perry's new demi-matte lipstick! Stick around for more posts about makeup, fashion, and everything in between!
Stay Beautiful,
